Peugeot has announced major price reductions on its range of scooters, making two-wheels an even more attractive alternative for drivers looking to reduce their travelling costs as the credit crunch bites.

UK scooter sales rose by 7.4% in June this year as escalating fuel prices encouraged people to switch from cars to more economical forms of transport. Petrol prices were driven to new highs between May and June, according the Office for National Statistics, with the average price of petrol at the pumps increasing by 5.3 pence per litre, to stand at 117.6 pence, (£5.35 gallon). Meanwhile diesel prices rose by 7.1 pence per litre to stand at 130.5 pence (£5.94 gallon).

Smaller capacity scooters, like the Peugeot Satelis 125, can return 75 mpg and don’t waste this valuable resource while stuck in traffic. Road tax (VED) is just £15 per year for a 125 cc scooter and parking is generally free for two-wheelers, so the potential savings are clear. For those needing to travel over longer distances a 500cc scooter such as the Peugeot Satelis 500 is more than capable of keeping up with motorway traffic, can return over 50 mpg and VED is £66.00 for 12 months.

Peugeot have reduced the retail price of their learner-legal Satelis 125 by £300 to £2,799 and the 500cc version is currently £600 cheaper than before at £3,999. The biggest saving is the 250cc big-wheel Geopolis, now only £2,999, a saving of £1,100 on the previous price. All Peugeot scooters are covered by a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty for peace of mind. Full details are available on Peugeot’s new website.
